In this article, we will discussing about tables and it’s uses using microsoft excel and if you are beginner so don’t be worry, we will learning the concept of tables from scratch, so before any further delays.

Excel Table and It’s Uses

Excel table is a table that commands the conversion of a list of data into a structured/format excel table. We can use tables for many features like sorting and filtering and it help us organize and view our data. We can use an excel table as a database to unlock additional excel properties. An excel table can be handy and make Excel sheets easier to use. When you use table for the time, excel has its default template format of a table with blue banded rows but if we want to change the table style than we will change it as per our requirements.

To change the table style follow the steps below:

  • Select any cell of the current table and the table design tab will appear on the ribbon by default.
  • Once you reach the design tab simply goto table styles and take any style from there as you feel like and then click on that, it will automatically applying in your current table.

We can also create our custom table designs in excel so, for doing this follow the steps below:

  • Go to table styles and click on the right-most popup.
  • Then, select New Table Style.
  • To clear the table formatting click on Clear button in the dialog box.

Now we will learn to create a table in an Excel spreadsheet, for doing this follow the steps below:

  • Select a set of data.
  • Goto insert tab.
  • Click on table button or use the shortcut key (Ctrl + T).

Advantages of Excel Table

  • Table headers remain visible even when we scroll down the sheet or table.
  • Filters are automatically available in a table, so we don’t need to add separate filters.
  • Every Excel Table column has its name range. It makes Excel Data dynamic

Table have more different options, that is important for us to understand those options and after that we can had a realistic feel of understanding the table more precisely and accurately and every option has its own power so let’s discuss these options one by one.

Header Row: It displays the header of a table. If a header row is unchecked, the header of the table will disappear.

Total Row: It displays the subtotal function with different parameters.

Banded Row/Column: They display alternate row or column shading respectively.

First column/last column: They are the special display formatting that is used for highlighting the first and the last columns of the table.

Filter Button: The filter will disappear when the Filter button is unchecked.

Now, we will learn to name an Excel table, for doing this follow the steps below:

  • Select a table
  • Goto the table design tab
  • In table design, click on properties
  • Table1 will display by default for the first table of the Workbook, you can rename it by just typing your desired table name and hit enter.

Whenever we start to learn any software, firstly we need to understand the nature of this software and once you can crack it than it is very easy to master it. We can also keep in mind this strategy, we can bring excel basics and in this beginning of learning journey we can learn excel tables and it’s uses because stone build the building.
