Step 1: “Load a Dataset”
If you want to load your dataset, simply click on the “Get Data” button in the data group on the “Home Tab”. once you click on that it will show a drop-down menu with multiple data sources, select “Excel workbook” from there and click on that.
Once, you click on that it brings another dialog box, where you can pull your data file from your local system, select your file and click on “Open” button located at the bottom right corner of the dialog box.
Once, you are done with that it will bring a navigator dialog box, from there you can select your sheet from the left hand side and after that, simply click on the “Check Box” and select your “All” sheet. once you select, than click on “Load” button located at the bottom right corner of the dialog box for saving your changes.
Step 2: “Select a Column”
if you want to select your desire columns in the dataset and made formatting on that columns, firstly you have to navigate the “Data Field” pane in left-hand side in power bi, once you reach it out, now you select your columns by clicking on check boxes and it will appear in canvas.
Once, you are done with that now you want to do some formatting on your selected data and make it more engaging and interactive. To do this, simply click on anywhere in the dataset. once you click on that it will show you a “Columns” section in the visualization pane, simply right-click on this section, it will popped up a dialog box, from there you can click on “Conditional Formatting”.
Once, you click on that it will show you a drop-down menu where multiple options are present like:
1- Background color
2- Font colors
3- Data bars
4- Icons
5- Web URL’s
Background Color
If you want to change background color of your column than all you have to do is, simply click on the “Sum of Sales” from the column section and click on “background color” in conditional formatting. once you click on that, it will popped up a background color dialog box from there you made any modifications in the column you selected earlier and once you all set than click on “OK” button located at the bottom right corner of the dialog box.
Font Colors
If you want to change font colors, click on “font color”. once you click on that it will popped up a same dialog box, made your desire changes and click on the “OK” button at the bottom right corner of the dialog box.
Data Bars
If you want to add a data bars to analyze the lowest and highest numeric values in your columns than, simply click on the “data bars” in the conditional formatting, once you click on that it will show you a data bars dialog box from there you made your desired changes and click on the “OK” button at the bottom right corner of the dialog box.
Icons
If you want to represent your data with different shapes, click on “Icons” in the conditional formatting. once, you click on that it will show you a icons dialog box where you made your desired changes and click on the “OK” button in the dialog box.
Web URL’s
If you want to add url in your column, click on the “URL” in the conditional formatting. Once, you click on that it will popped up a url dialog box from there you made your desired changes and once you all set, click on the “OK” button in the dialog box.
